White Supremacist riots in Sydney. Tsk, tsk, tsk. And I thought the provinces had distanced themselves from all that. Interesting to say what our bold and insightful leaders had to say.
Peter Costello says that Australia is afflicted by racism, and this racism is a consequence of lawlessness. A firm, disciplinary institution of law and order is required to prevent racism from springing up. This is, as I said, bold and insightful of him to point out – why, whenever I put off paying a library bill, or spray an anti-racist slogan on a public wall, or cross the road at an inappropriate crossing location, I feel a little more racist!
No, wait, that’s not true. This is clearly then more of a political move – he’s appealing to those people most likely to desire the strong hand of law: die-hard lefty anti-racists.
No, wait. I guess he’s just gone mad with syphilis.
Prime Minister John Howard disagreed, and described Australia as non-discriminatory place, though with one provision. Quoth:
