America! America America America America America…
We’re in the United States! Though it’s an odd tradition, that name – if I said “We’re in the Republic!”, would you know that I meant Guatemala, and not the Congo, Sierra Leone, Cyprus or China (Taiwan)? But there’s only one other United States, and we’ve already been there, so America it is.
Er, where was I? Oh, yes. We’re in Texas! Land of musicians and mystics, of Leadbelly, Rauschenberg, and the 13th Floor Elevators. We’ve got some fantastic museum visits lined up for our brief stay here – but I’ve still half of Mexico to tell you about, so I won’t get ahead of myself! I will say, though, that our time here is entirely appropriate, given the subject of the next instalment of The Public’s Peacocks! Here’s a hint: it’s the bearer of the largest pince-nez… in the world!
